From the standpoint of the dominant culture, there is indeed a kind of marginality-problem represented here; it is the specific problematic of a particular formation of ideology and control. From that standpoint, the “problem of women” can be formulated as How to manage the “dangerous passage” of young girls, from parental care—out from one family—and into a maternal role—back into a new family?
