Diagrams that serve stakeholders who ultimately serve a user are often work zones and not the final intended output of those stakeholders. Construction crews often use diagrams to work out changes to plans before they set foot on worksites. But it is the building that they are concerned with; the diagram is secondary and often only for their eyes.
Similarly, product teams often rely on whiteboard spaces to share diagrams illustrating processes or goals. They are making a product together; the diagram is just for their use. Diagrams like these are places where decisions are made, so we must have both audiences in mind at once.…
