The Conditional/Consequential Matrix
-
Description
-
The matrix consists of a series of concentric and interconnected circles with arrows going both toward and away from the center. The arrows represent the intersection of conditions/consequences and the resulting chain of events. Conditions move toward and surround the action/interaction to create a conditional context. Other arrows move away from actions/interactions, representing how the consequences of any action/interaction move from action/interaction to change or add to conditions in often diverse and unanticipated ways. One of the limitations of the diagram is that the flow appears linear. In reality, the paths taken by conditions/consequences as they move within and through the various areas from macro to micro are anything but linear…Moving progressively outward from the center of the matrix are several concentric circles. As already stated, each represents a different source of potential conditions/consequences from the more macro to the more micro. Not every possible source has been delineated. The matrix is meant only to be a conceptual guide. Persons may fill in, add to, or modify the matrix to fit their studies and data.
